    Ich hätte mir gewünscht, dass in der Beschreibung die Sprache(n) aufgeführt worden wäre. Aber ganz ohne ist das immer ein Glaskugel-Kauf.

    Very minor spoilers ahead, but nothing that gives away too much. This review is solely for the 1948 serial as I've not watched the 1950 serial yet, but the 1948 serial was so good, I had to go ahead and write a review. And I'll update it once I've watched the 1950 one, but the 1948 one alone is worth the price of admission. I have seen all the George Reeves seasons of Superman (I grew up watching reruns of those in the 70s) and all the Christopher Reeve movies as well as Superman Returns and Man of Steel and every episode of Lois and Clark and this serial stands with the best of those.

    First, there's Noel Neill, who, to my mind, IS Lois Lane. She beats out Margot (whom I also loved), Teri, Parker and Phyllis (who I never really warmed to and was glad that she had been replaced by Noel in the George Reeves series). There's always been competition between Lois and Clark, but in this serial, Noel takes that to the max, and even comes off as manipulative and conniving, going so far as to trick Clark into be arrested so she can get to a story before he does. Still, Noel is eminently likeable, even when she's giving Clark a hard time.

    I've never seen Kirk Alyn in any other movie or series, but that guy was born to play Superman. He is great in the role of both Clark and Superman, and plays those roles subtly differently. He just fits the role perfectly and while I loved George, Christopher and Dean in the role, Kirk in some ways plays it better than all three of them. One thing that kind of sticks with me as a negative however is the difference between Clark and Superman, goes to his powers as well. I'm not sure if this is an artifact of the way Superman was conceived back then or if the writers made a mistake in their portrayal of Clark. Some of Superman's powers (notably his x-ray vision) are with him even when he's Clark, but his super strength and invincibility are nowhere to be found and he comes off more as Ralph Hinkley (The Greatest American Hero who is powerless without his costume) than Superman. He gets his backside handed to him at least three times by hired heavies when in his Clark disguise, even being rendered briefly unconscious by a punch to the face at one point. It seems odd that the man of steel could be so easily defeated just because he has a suit on over his costume. And it doesn't seem to be a way to protect his identity either. It seems like he really gets hurt.

    That aside, the story was great, the acting was great (Carol Forman was great as the villain) and the picture and quality of the DVD was excellent. A must buy, must see for fans of Superman.

    Even this serial from the late 40s and early 50s was considered super for it's time. Even though you didnt see superman fly it was still way ahead of it's time. It started with some real people who got into the superman roles. It was a youngish Noel Neill who with this movie series and a substitute for Phyllis Coates up until the early 90s or so played the longest running Lois Lane. Even though this is the oldest Superman going , you'd be surprised how this is presented.

    Many years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Alyn of the Superman Serials. He was a most congenial and respected guest at the comic convention when I met him. I highly recommend this to anyone that is a Superman fan! I would rate him as the number one Superman, with George Reeves as the 2nd best superhero. Get this set and see for yourself.
